Our traditions and our language are what make the Kalispel people who we are today. The language ties us to the land, our relations, and our past.
The Kalispel Language Survival School started in 2016 with only 4 teachers and 15 students. The school has more than doubled since then and is continuing to expand. Right now, there are 8 teachers and 32 students consisting of Kindergarteners to 4th graders. Come the new year, they will have 2 new classrooms, they currently have 3, in their new portable trailer. At the Kalispel Language Survival School, the students and teachers are like one big family, the students even refer to their classmates as their cousins and the teachers as their aunts and uncles. These students receive 4 1/2 hrs of language instruction in Science, Math, and Reading.
We are all very excited about the Kalispel Language Survival School and the opportunity to teach our children language. Please feel free to stop by and check them out.
