What is your Job Title and what department do you work in?

I am the Training Captain for the Kalispel Tribal Fire Department.

What is the best thing about your job?

It’s probably the emergency calls that I go on. Sometimes they can be pretty rough, but I appreciate being able to help a community that I’ve come to care a great deal about.

What is the best thing about Kalispel Tribe?

Their generosity. About eight years ago, I spent a month in the hospital and the tribe went above and beyond. They went so far as to pay for my family’s food and hotel stay while I was there. It meant more to me than I can describe.

What does your workspace look like?

Right now I’m in my office, and it’s scattered with coffee cups and paperwork.

What has been one of your proudest moments working at Kalispel Tribe?

I have had a lot of moments here that I treasure, but it always comes back to being able to have a positive impact on somebody’s day.

What do you like to do when you are not at the office?

My five-year-old daughter recently told me that all I want to do is lay on the couch and watch Star Trek. I can go with that

If you could pick one person that inspires you, who would it be and why?

Not a person exactly. I would say I am inspired by the actions of others that display the qualities I would like to cultivate in myself. Qualities like kindness, and compassion.

What advice would you give to today’s youth?

Work hard, start a family, and treat other people like they’re more important than you are.

What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?

Keep your boots polished.
