The Kalispel Tribe hosted a Public Safety Awareness Day Wednesday, May 31 at the Powwow Grounds and Camas Center.  Students from Cusick, Selkirk, House of the Lord, and Deer Park Home Link traveled to the reservation to learn about potential career opportunities with organizations like the Border Patrol, FBI, WDFW, and KNRD.  Other members of the community were in attendance to meet their public safety professionals and show their support and appreciation.

Presenters included Tom Atkinson and Cody SiJohn from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ray Entz of KNRD, and Jim Wynecoop and Corrie Johnson from Public Safety.  Some of the highlights of the day included Life Flight landing a helicopter at the Powwow Grounds and an automobile extraction demonstration by the Tribe’s Fire Department.

Kids from the CELC also made their way down to the Powwow Grounds where members of the Red Cross taught them about the best way to report a fire.  Afterwards, the children and their teachers enjoyed a presentation by the Border Patrol, who had brought along four of their horses for the day.
