Kalispel Career Training Center

Pend Oreille County unemployment has been above-average hovering between 11.5% and 13.9%. Recognizing the need to prepare well-trained, educated persons to the local workforce, the Kalispel Tribe, along with community partners developed the Kalispel Career Training Center (KCTC). KCTC educates young adults for jobs in metal fabrication, welding, auto body, auto shop, culinary arts, multimedia, carpentry, computer design, production and line assembly, shipping and receiving, and marketing.

The Kalispel Tribe, along with a consortium of organizations in Pend Oreille County, including the Pend Oreille Economic Development Council, the EDC’s Associated Development Organization, Seattle City Light, the Public Utility District, the Port of Pend Oreille, and the Cusick School District, have all provided funding and have united to address employment and job-training needs. With no other public mode of transportation, and the nearest training center located over an hour’s drive away, Kaltran provides much needed transportation services for high school students to attend KCTC.

KCTC currently makes available, a number of courses that have been determined, by public request, to be the most beneficial. KCTC is determined to meet the challenge of providing a wide diversity of practical instruction, adapting our educational format to meet the demands of local individuals, businesses, and larger companies in our area. You will find below a list of courses currently offered, as well as a brief description of what each course is designed to accomplish. Also included, is a prospectus of future courses to be offered in the near future.

Summary of Commitment

The Kalispel Career Training Center is dedicated to workforce development and generates opportunity for new commerce in our community. KCTC will design programs to assist existing businesses by training personnel in the tasks specific to each business endeavor and will prepare a workforce for new businesses entering the local community.

 

 

The Kalispel Career Training Center in partnership with Cusick High School the following classes:
Manufacturing Instruction necessary to use and repair tools and equipment associated with the manufacturing environment.
Multi-Media Instruction in audio/video production (presentation and video gaming). Future plans include establishing and operating a local radio station.
Auto Body / Collision Repair Classroom and shop instruction to enable students to perform necessary repair and replacement of parts to restore damaged vehicles.
Auto Mechanics Classroom and shop instruction in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles and their many components, as well as gasoline engine theory and overhaul.
Culinary Arts Instruction in the various aspects of food preparation and proper handling of food, with opportunity for hands-on training in the modern Camas Center kitchen facility.
Adult Training Classes currently offered by the Kalispel Career Training Center: 
Basic Construction Classroom and shop instruction on the safe use, maintenance, and operation of the many tools used in the various fields of construction. Course offers hands on opportunity to become familiar and gain experience in using these tools.
Advanced Construction

Classroom and shop instruction offers further education in the various aspects of construction, Site planning, building codes, excavation, foundations, layout, framing, siding, roofing, drywall installation and repair, and much more are included in this course. Projects include storage buildings and larger structures as weather permits. 

Contractor training course is also available: Instruction in setting up a small business, bookkeeping requirements, OSHA and L&I standards, and other training specific to assisting a contractor, or owning your own company.

Woodworking Classroom and shop classes include the safe use of equipment specific to the woodworking industry, as well as hobby and crafting. Small projects include custom design, such as outdoor furniture, pet shelters, and whatever fuels the imagination.
Basic Electrical Classroom and shop instruction include safety when dealing with electricity, a basic theory of electricity, wiring and components found in the home, as well as how to make simple repairs to your residential components, outlets, switches, service panel, etc. (Advanced course is also available).
Basic Plumbing Classroom and shop instruction include the safe use of specific tools used. The course includes fresh water, septic, and plumbing fixture application.  Various types of materials such as pipe, fittings, glues, etc. are defined and their proper use in maintenance and repair are demonstrated. (Advanced course is also available).
Small Engine Repair Classroom and shop instruction include safe use of tools, weatherization, troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair.  Students benefit from an understanding of various types of equipment powered by small gasoline engines. (Advanced course is also available).
Automobile Maintenance Course is designed to instruct automobile owners to become familiar with and maintain their personal automobiles. Oil change, tire rotation, polishing and waxing, etc. will give the student the necessary skills to perform many maintenance procedures resulting in substantial cost savings associated with automobile maintenance.
Future courses that will be offered might include:
Vocational Training Welding and fabrication, forklift training, backhoe operation and CDL licensing perparation.
Professional Training Health Care: nursing, nurses aid, dental assistant, medical receptionist, etc.

Registration Fees, Tuitions, Lab Fees:

Class fees will vary as to duration of class, number of participants, and cost of materials  and supplies necessary for instruction of various courses. All effort is being made to keep the cost of education affordable and available for all who desire to participate.
